my grandmother passed away the other night.

it was expected; she's been sick in/out of the hospital for a while now.

most of us are more relieved than anything else because she has been so miserable these last six months or longer.

Matthew 28:19, 20 "Go therefore ... baptizing them ..."

jehovah's witnesses teach that matthew 28:19, 20 is a requirement of god for every christian, a command from christ to his followers.

every one of jehovah's witnesses is required to proselytize in order to be considered an active and regular jehovah's witness.. however, these verses also say that the teachers must baptize.

jehovah's witnesses only consider baptisms by organizationally authorized persons to be valid, and only after a person desiring baptism meets the requirements of an unscriptural criteria.. how is it contextually possible that jesus intended the teaching to be carried by individuals and the baptizing to be performed organizationally?

The catholic church recognises that anyone may be the baptiser, although by tradition it is more formal (I'm sure it has cult limiting value).

They do question though what one is baptised in to, and I don't think jw baptism is recognised as being the same sort of thing.

Lazy, pathetic dubs

at my school (community college), throughout the week, there are always two dub ladies off to the side of the main path where the bookstore and academic offices are located.. they usually get there in the morning and bring some folding chairs and a table where they place the tower and awake rags, among other things.. anyway, i usually take a break near their "spot," since it's close to the cafeteria.

i have never seen them try to talk to anyone.

they just watch people pass by while they talk to each other.. good job, dub ladies.

i was just reading a thread about how it was said "satan encouraged hitler mainly so that he would kill all the jws" and it occured to me.. it is known that jws are typically imagining that things of human notariety are somehow about themselves, but it's typically about disastorous things.. they don't seem to focus on wedging their brains into self-involvement with great human achievements - it's normally human disasters and tradgedies, or some bad thing being done to someone - perhaps it's the persecution complex thing.. and isn't that sort of grandiosity a plain out mental disorder?.

It is a matter of opinion - but to debate - as a group and in the main they don't participate in charity, and fail to match the accepted meaning

Additionally, christians traditionally believe Jesus to be the Lord - ie. God, as God is

no one can confess that Jesus is Lord but by the Holy Spirit

The fear of infringing on another's religious "freedom", and fear of ramifications of being charged with religious "persecution" has led to the tolerating, if not sanctioning, of otherwise criminal behaviours - in other areas of life and work people simply will not accept such a telling of lies and intimidating behaviours - some of us refuse to accept it in the religious arena as well - indeed, after reading certain laws of this state, I would suggest that a test case against certain aspects of their ways would result in likely prosecutions.

What is the purpse of the Jehovahs witnesses

i have been on this site for a while looking around at all your comments and most of you have pretty good arguments and i am not trying to argue for either side i am just wondering and maybe this has already been discussed but what is the purpose of the jehovah's witnesses most of you believe that the jw organization is a cult and that they are controlling the minds of their people, but why are they trying to control the minds of the people?

is it to get their money?

is their reports of the jws having like billions of dollars stashed away?

Their purpose is to be special and to be right about being special - you aren't special if you're wrong and when you are indeed wrong, "being right" requires an effort.

Importantly their "rightness" requires validation, and validation comes in the form of people - people who recognise that you are right. There is little as repulsive to the jw as someone who is actually right displaying them as wrong ( 'postates ), and being wrong also means "not special", whereas being right affirms for them the deservedness of their character and efforts. Jws believe themselves more worthy - indeed they even make the proclaimation about themselves - "winners of the test of Jesus' inspection of religious groups". This is the spiritual manner of Cain - who considered the deservedness of his own efforts and way.

In short - one could say the general purpose of the group's existence is the satisfying of envy.
